WHAT IS SER?

The initial of SER stand for Service, Employment and Redevelopment. In Spanish SER means “to be”. The organization was established in the spring of 1964 by two national organizations: the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and G.I. Forum.

SER presently operates ninety-five programs located in eighty-one cities throughout the United States. With headquarters in Dallas, Texas, each program is structured to meet the specific needs of the community. As a community-based organization, SER has the commitment to upgrade the social and economic status of members of our community.

SER’s HISTORY OF SUCCESS

  • In the past 38years, SER of Orange County has placed over 5,000 economically disadvantaged and unemployed individuals.
  • Nearly 85 percent students have “graduated” into unsubsidized employment, higher education, or have entered the arm forces.
  • Over 70 percent of the students placed stay on the job for over 90 days.
  • The average hourly wage for SER participant entering unsubsidized employment is $14.00 per hour.
  • SER alumni become more responsible and developed a stronger work ethic during their studies at SER.
  • In the last five years, 466 students who dropped out of high school obtained their GED Certificate at SER.
